my favorite movie is the lesser-known sequel to the iconic horror movie The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). this film follows radio dj vanita "stretch" brock (caroline williams) and former texas ranger turned vigilante lieutenant "lefty" enright (dennis hopper) as they track down the culprits behind a murder that was taped through stretch's call-in radio show. they find themselves struggling for survival after stepping into the horrifying world of the cannibalistic sawyer family.
this film breaks away from the tone of its predecessor by blending dark humor and horror near-seamlessly—neither one diminishing or overpowering the other. all the characters, even the villains, have a likeability to them. (okay, maybe not grandpa.) the setting, northeast texas, is particularly special to me since it's where i was born and raised! i could watch this movie every day for the rest of my life and never tire of it. even buckethead has an affinity for it, evidenced in some of his music as well as photos of him! (that's how you know it's a good movie~)
